ABOUT TORONTO GRAFFITI
2021 marks the 10-year anniversary of the birth of Toronto Graffiti!
With it, the book has been relaunched with new photos, a brand new Graffiti Knights section, and other surprise additions. Toronto Graffiti is a rare and powerful book showcasing some of Toronto’s incredible graffiti artists, honouring their work and contributions to this city, while creating a dialogue about some of the issues involved. Check out the Artists page to read a sample of the artists' section. Toronto Graffiti showcases inspiring stories, realities and ideas that are rarely, if ever seen in the public realm. Anyone who picks up this beautiful historic and photographic journey will learn from its educational content. This includes legal sections, health and safety sections written specifically for artists as well as direct feedback from the artists themselves. The sociopolitical standpoints and importance of art in the lives of all citizens becomes an important message. Opinion pieces provide insight to the average reader on the longstanding debate of graffiti, while engaging a curiosity and appreciation for this incredibly complex and little understood genre. Never before has such a coveted opportunity ever been made available to the general public! If education is power, then this book is powerful! This 520-page book of photographs, stories, and histories showcases 1000+ photos which document 30 years of Graffiti in Toronto. They come from all over the city; from the back alleys in the Beach to storefronts of Kensington Market, beneath highway overpasses and bridges, on GO and TTC platforms and cars, Rosedale Valley, The Evergreen Brickworks, various buildings, both abandoned and inhabited, tables, chairs, desks, bathroom stalls and walls, trees, posts – just about everywhere. In addition to documenting the many images, Toronto Graffiti explores the legal, health and safety issues associated with the art. This includes interviews with 21 artists, health and safety professionals, community workers, lawyers, and opinion pieces from a variety of relevant sources.
